Prepares kitchen and food preparation areas upon arrival
Cleans kitchen area before and after food service
Prepares ingredients beforehand, and cooks meal according to menu
Follows nutritional guidelines and portion sizes per dietary guidelines
Bakes pastries and bread
Reviews and assists with stock of kitchen and informs supervisor of need to order food and food supplies
Reconstitutes frozen meals in accordance with manufacturer s instructions
Operates standard cooking equipment, such as ranges, mixers, food choppers, refrigerators, microwaves, etc.
Cleans kitchen equipment and coolers; washes dishes
Receives and stocks food and food supplies, maintains sanitary standards
Applies and adheres to safety standards
Participates in training
Knowledge of nutritional needs of older adults and persons with disabilities, meal service and ability to follow menu instructions
General knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing meats, breads and other foods on a large scale and the use and care of utensils and equipment
Able to work independently in the absence of specific instruction
Skill in cutting and carving meat; supervision of others in elementary food preparation and in calculating proper food quantities and servings for large groups.
Must be able to read food thermometers and weight scales.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and other employees.
Excellent organizational and planning skills to efficiently manage time and meet deadlines
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED
Course in food handling
One (1) year of recent food handling and or preparation experience
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. On a frequent basis.
Acceptable criminal background check
Ability to pass a substance screen

She came from a retail background where she honed her customer service, staff development, and management skills. She graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Communication and Media Studies and is currently attending Southern New Hampshire University, pursuing a M.S. in Human Resources Management. Michaela, her husband, Kelly, and their dog, Wallace are transplants to the Hampton Roads area and enjoy all of the outdoor and water pastimes that coastal living has to offer.
